Supreme Court Declines To Hear Appeal Of 9/11 Cleanup Case

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) - The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear a real estate developer's appeal after it lost its bid to force World Trade Center owners to pay for a building's environmental cleanup after the Sept. 11 attacks.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan previously rejected a lawsuit brought by Cedar & Washington Associates LLC against owners and lessees of the trade center and the owners of airplanes that crashed into it in 2001.

The appeals court had said the attacks represented an act of war and thus protected the defendants against liability claims.

The developer filed the lawsuit after it began renovating its downtown office building into a hotel.

Its lawyer did not immediately respond to a comment request on Tuesday.
