8 Most Memorable Moments In Subway Series History

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Who's ready for the 2015 Subway Series?

The annual Mets-Yankees showdown has had its share of memorable moments. Frank Francisco's obsession with chickens. Dwight Gooden's return to Shea Stadium -- as a Bronx Bomber. Shawn Estes failing miserably at revenge, throwing behind Roger Clemens, later redeeming himself with a homer off the Rocket (for real, it happened).

All good, but not the best.

Behold our eight favorite Subway Series moments:

June 16, 1997: Dave Mlicki Sets The Tone

Mlicki K's Jeter to complete the shutout by MLB on YouTube

It was the first meeting between the Mets and Yankees in the Interleague Era. Fans of both teams were going absolutely bonkers at the thought of having bragging rights. Enter Dave Freakin' Mlicki, who silenced the Bombers in a complete-game, nine-hit shutout. The Yanks won the next two games, but who remembers that?

July 10, 1999: Matt Franco's Walk-Off Magic

NYY@NYM: Franco notches pinch-hit walk-off single by MLB on YouTube

The Yankees lost only 64 games in '99. One of them came at the hands of Kurt Russell's nephew, who came off the bench to give the Amazin's a come-from-behind 9-8 walk-off win in Queens. The Yankees took the other two games that year, too -- but who's counting?

July 8, 2000: Clemens Vs. Piazza, The Prologue

NYM@NYY: Roger Clemens beans Mike Piazza by MLB on YouTube

The legendary feud between Roger Clemens and Mike Piazza can be traced back to this game, the nightcap of a Queens-Bronx doubleheader. Clemens plunked Piazza in the dome, which led to the infamous bat incident in the World Series that year, and Estes' just-as-infamous pitch behind the Rocket in 2002.

October 26, 2000: Thaaaa Yankees Win!

2000 WS Gm5: Three-peat! Mo seals World Series by MLB on YouTube

Old-timers and baseball purists would call this the last "true" Subway Series, and the first since 1956. We call it a World Series that could have gone the distance. The Yankees won their third straight ring and cemented the team's dynasty status, but it took five very tight games.

May 23, 2005: Mr. Koo At The Bat

Dae Sung Koo - The Man, The Myth, The Legend by Prime on YouTube

Relief pitcher Dae-Sung Koo will always be remembered around these parts despite his short-lived stint in the major leagues. After looking hilariously inept (or maybe just uninterested) at the plate earlier in the season, "Mr. Koo" stroked a long double against the Big Unit and proved to be a menace on the base paths, scoring all the way from second on a sac bunt. Classic.

June 12, 2009: Oh No, Castillo!

Yanks win as Castillo drops popup by MLB on YouTube

Maybe the single most deflating Subway Series moment for Mets fans, and that includes losing the World Series. Yankees fans are still enjoying this one.

June 28, 2009: Mo's Milestones

Mariano Rivera earns 500th career save by MLB on YouTube

Mariano Rivera had his share of struggles against the Mets. Not this time. The GOAT notched his 500th save and got the first and only RBI of his career with a bases-loaded walk.

May 28, 2013: Duda! Put It In The Books!

Duda knocks walk-off hit off Mo by MLB on YouTube

Did we mention Mo had some problems shutting down the Amazin's?
