Study: NYC Middle Schools Need Improvement
NEW YORK (CBS 2) -- New York City's middle schools aren't making the grade, at least according to a new Columbia University study.
Researchers said standalone middle schools do a worse job educating students than schools offering kindergarten through eighth grade under one roof.
Academic achievement falls substantially in both math and english among students in their first year of middle school.
The study suggests adolescents have difficulty moving to a new school, where kids are taught in larger groups.
