Woman Found Dead In Staten Island Home After Police Get Call About Assault

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police found a 43-year-old woman dead in a home on Staten Island after getting called about an assault Saturday morning.

The call came in just after 10 a.m. at a home on Buffalo Street.

Officers found the woman, identified as Iwona Pawliszun, in the basement of the home with her throat cut.

Police sources tell CBS2 investigators believe Pawliszun's estranged husband killed her before taking his own life in Poughkeepsie, where his body was found.

Neighbors said they saw the man leaving the house Friday night, WCBS 880's Stephanie Colombini reported.

Diana Cangro said the couple was separated and they leave behind three children.

"You know I see the little boy all the time walking. He gets off the bus stop there and I wait for my kids here," she said. "I just saw him yesterday and now today he has no mom. It's terrible."

"They just bought the house five years ago," Steve Delamonica said. "They were fighting earlier, a couple of people heard them slamming the door."

The NYPD said the investigation is ongoing.
