Capitol Chaos: Long Island's Thomas Fee, Staten Island's Nicolas Moncado Facing Charges Following Riot
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Videos are helping authorities identify people who attacked the U.S. Capitol, but it was a selfie that got a Long Island man into trouble.
Authorities say Thomas Fee, who lives in Freeport, sent the photo to his girlfriend's brother, who happens to be a federal agent. He also sent a video where people are heard shouting words like "tyranny" and "Pelosi."
To top it off, authorities say Fee also texted the agent words to the affect that he was "at the tip of the spear."
Authorities also arrested Nicolas Moncado, of Staten Island, for his alleged role at the capitol.
People at the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he is a student, alerted authorities after seeing his social media posts.

The latest arrests come as the capitol prepares for Wednesday's inauguration.
Authorities are worried about insider threats from the 20,000 National Guard troops and will be doing background checks.
"In coordination with the Secret Service and the FBI, they're screening all the personnel that are coming in," National Guard Bureau Chief Gen. Daniel Hokanson said.
More than 20 current or former members of the U.S. Military or law enforcement have been identified as being in or around the capitol riot.
"Maybe more will be identified. We are asking they look into their ranks and see if they know of anyone," said Rep. Carolyn Maloney, of New York.

The capitol complex went on temporary lockdown Monday and an inauguration rehearsal was evacuated.
President-elect Joe Biden will take the Oath of Office outside on the capitol's west front, despite the continued security threat.

First Lady Melania Trump tweeted a farewell video Monday, in which she seemed to reference the capitol attack.
"Be passionate in everything you do, but violence is never the answer and is never justified," she said.
