Staten Island Mall Fights Shoplifting With Shoplifter Photos
NEW YORK (AP) -- The Staten Island Mall is displaying digital billboard ads featuring the mug shots of shoplifters.
The Staten Island Advance says one of the offenders has been arrested 138 times under several names. She's been convicted 66 times -- and banned from the mall for life.
District Attorney Daniel Donovan says the mug shots are intended as a deterrent.
The mall's senior general manager, James M. Easley, says he's seen customers point to the billboard and tell their children: "You don't want to be that guy."
