Sorry, Wrong Number: NJ Woman Gets Phone Sex Line Instead Of Ombudsman's Office

BRICK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey woman claims a hospital had her dialing up trouble.

After bringing her husband home from the hospital on Monday, Maureen Persi of Ortley Beachsaid she called a number for what she thought was the state's Office of the Ombudsman -- which handles hospital complaints.

Instead she was connected to a phone sex service.

"When I called the number I immediately hung up," Persi told 1010 WINS.

She thought she had misdialed and tried calling the number two more times but still ran into the same problem.

"I broke out into hysteria, I was so upset," Persi said. "I said, 'How despicable; how disgusting; how inexcusable; how could the hospital be putting a porn site out for the Office of the Ombudsman?"

Persi said she got the phone number off of the "Patients' Bill of Rights" that was given to her at Ocean Medical Hospital in Brick.

"Now I have two of these phone numbers on my bill," Persi said.

The number for the ombudsman's office was apparently changed but the pamphlets were never updated.

Persi said the incorrect number also appears on websites for nursing and home health care agencies.

A spokeswoman said she was horrified to learn of the mixup and is working to clear up the problem.

The number (which is 877-582-6995) is listed correctly on the state's official website.
