SNY's Carlin Torches Jeter: 'This Clown Is A Fraud, And You Are All Suckers'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Derek Jeter did it his way? When it comes to his final season, it was the wrong way, according to SNY's Chris Carlin.

Carlin launched a one-man mutiny against the Yankees captain on Thursday, saying No. 2 has been putting himself No. 1 during his farewell tour. And that makes a player who has always branded himself team-first, according to the fired-up "Loud Mouths" co-host, a total phony.

"Yo, this clown is a fraud," Carlin said on his weekday yak show, "and you are all suckers."

Carlin was set off by the latest uber-viral ad featuring Jeter, a desaturated tear-jerker from Gatorade set to Frank Sinatra's "My Way." In the 90-second spot, Jeter jumps out of his cab and walks to his game at Yankee Stadium, stopping to greet wide-eyed fans on the way.

Among the highlights was Jeter's cameo at Stan's Sports Bar, where the captain wouldn't have been "caught dead" had Gatorade not opened its coffers, Carlin said.

"What a complete and utter joke," he said. "And here's the other thing I can't take: I can't take this notion that Derek didn't want this, the Yankees wanted this, Derek's not comfortable with this. He looked pretty damn comfortable to me as he's collecting the checks, and I'm shocked he's not hurt from patting himself on the back all year."

Co-host Adam Schein came to Jeter's defense, arguing the five-time World Series champ deserves to go out however he wants after a stellar 20-year career: "He's allowed to tip the cap and soak it in. Why can't you get that?"

"This tone in this commercial is spot-on," Schein said. "It's perfect. And Derek Jeter saying thank you to everyone ... it's awesome."
