Rangers' Sean Avery Clears Re-Entry Waivers

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) — Sean Avery is back with the Rangers and might be in the lineup Thursday night.

Avery could have been claimed by the other 29 NHL teams after he was placed on re-entry waivers Monday by the Rangers, but they all passed on the noted agitator before the 24-hour period expired Tuesday. That cleared the way for Avery to be recalled by New York from the AHL's Connecticut Whale.

"This is the right decision," Rangers coach Tortorella said before Monday night's 5-2 win over the Sharks. "It's the right hockey decision now and it was the right hockey decision when we sent Sean down. That's where it's at."

He is eligible to play Thursday night against the Anaheim Ducks, but after a solid victory against San Jose, Tortorella might not have a spot for him.

Tortorella said after Monday's win that he didn't want to "force feed" the lineup.

"If I look at the tape and think guys have done their job, you stay with your team," he said. "I just don't know what the lineup's going to be our next game. We'll see how it all works out."

Should Tortorella give Avery playing time against the Ducks? Sound off below...
