The Mets demoted Ike Davis to Triple-A Las Vegas after Sunday's loss to Miami. Davis was batting .161 with five homers, 16 RBIs and 66 strikeouts in 186 at-bats.
One year ago, through the games of June 9, Davis was hitting .162 with five homers, 21 RB's and 59 strikeouts in 185 at-bats.
The Mets, however were 32-28 as opposed to their current 23-35 mark.
Davis did not get sent down in 2012, and hit .263 from June 10 on with 27 home runs and 69 runs batted in.
For now, Davis will remain 14 at-bats shy of 200 for the season. Only 11 players in Mets history have had at least 200 at-bats in a season and finished with a batting average below .200, something that has not happened in the last 30 years:
Dave Kingman: 1983, .198, 248
Doug Flynn: 1977, .191, 282
Bud Harrelson: 1977, .178, 269
John Milner: 1975, .191, 220
Al Weis: 1968, .172, 274
Jerry Grote: 1967, .195, 344
Bobby Klaus: 1965, .191, 288
Chris Cannizzaro: 1965, .183, 251
Choo Choo Coleman: 1963, .178, 247
Al Moran: 1963, .193, 331
In 2012 Jason Bay hit just .165, but only had 194 at-bats for the season.
It is already becoming a long season for the New York Mets, and Saturday's 20-inning, 2-1 loss to the Miami Marlins was the longest game in the four-plus seasons at Citi Field.
The marathon matched the fourth-longest in club history and the the third-longest home game ever for the Mets. Here are the longest home games in Mets history:
•9/11/74: 25 innings vs. St. Louis, 4-3 loss
•5/31/64: 23 innings vs. San Francisco, 8-6 loss
•6/08/13: 20 innings vs. Miami, 2-1 loss
•4/28/85: 18 innings vs. Pittsburgh, 5-4 win
•9/16/75: 18 innings vs. Montreal, 4-3 win
•8/01/72: 18 innings vs. Philadelphia, 3-2 win
•10/2/65: 18 innings vs. Philadelphia, 0-0 tie
There have been six other 17-inning home games in Mets history, all of which were played at Shea Stadium. The longest Mets game at the Polo Grounds was on September 1, 1963, a 6-4, 16-inning victory over the Milwaukee Braves.
Shaun Marcum was the hard-luck losing pitcher in Saturday's 2-1, 20-inning loss to the Marlins. Marcum went eight innings, the longest relief outing by a Mets pitcher since Jerry Cram pitched eight in the 25-inning, 4-3 loss to the Cardinals on September 11, 1974. Here is the list of Mets relievers who pitched seven or more innings in a
game:
