Schwei By The Numbers: Slams, Shutouts And Streaks

In 2006, the Mets established a club record by hitting 10 grand slams.
The last of those 10 bases loaded round-trippers was on August 30th of that season by David Wright in Colorado. In the nearly four calendar years since, they have it just eight as a team; four apiece in both 2008 and 2009. The Mets last grand slam came off the bat of Angel Pagan on August 1st, 2009 against Clay Zavada of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Since then, the Mets have allowed 13 grand slams, nine of which have come so far in 2010. Here is a list of those 13 slams given up by the Mets since they last hit one:

The Mets lead the majors with 18 shutouts in 2010, 15 of which have come at Citi Field. Here are the lists of the most shutouts in a season in club history as well as the most in home games:

Ruben Tejada snapped a 0-for-28 hitless streak with a 7th inning double against the Astros in last Wednesday's 3-2, 14-inning win. It was the longest hitless streak by a Mets position player since Jason Phillips went 0-for-29 back in 2004. Tejada also came up nine at bats shy of the worst 0-fer by an everyday player in club history; Rey Ordonez' 0-for-37 in 1997. Here are the longest 0-fers by Mets position players:

The Mets return from their first winning road trip in more than two months to host the Marlins and Astros this week at Citi Field.
The last time the Mets were set to begin a series with Florida was in Puerto Rico on June 28th. New York's record stood at 43 and 32 that night, a half game back of the first place Braves. Since then, the Mets have gone just 19 and 30 and have fallen 11 games behind Atlanta in the National League East.
Overall, the Marlins have beaten the Mets eight times in their 13 meetings so far in 2010, while the Mets and Astros split their four-game series in Houston last week. The Mets took all three games against the Astros last season at Citi Field, a three-game sweep in the final series of the season in October.
The Mets rain-shortened, 5-1, win over the Pirates this past Saturday was their second such victory this season. Back on April 25th, the Mets beat the Braves, 1-0, in a game called in the top of the 6th at Citi Field. The Mets have now won their last four rain-shortened games, having gone 2 and 0 in 2007 with a 2-0, six-inning win over the Cardinals at Shea Stadium on June 27th and a 5-0, five-inning victory against the Nationals on July 29th. The last time the Mets were on the losing end of a game called by rain was back on May 11th, 2006, a 2-0 five-inning loss to the Phillies in Philadelphia. The last time the Mets lost a home game shorter than nine innings was back on July 2nd, 1993, a
3-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants at Shea. The Mets are now 21 and 17 with three ties all-time in games decided in less than nine innings.

Runs: Road series win vs. N.L. Mets end season-long run of going winless against National League opponents in road series by taking 2 of 3 in Pittsburgh.
Hits: Jose Reyes. Mets SS hits .483 (15-for-31) on road trip.
Errors: Santana support. Mets ace allows two runs or less for 17th time in 27 starts but Mets' loss to Pirates drops team's record in Santana's outings to 13 and 14.
