Reunion, Anybody? Jets Reportedly Interested In Leon Washington
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Reunion, anybody?
There could be one on the horizon.
The Jets have interest in bringing back running back/return specialist Leon Washington, according to the New York Post.
The newspaper reported that the 31-year-old visited the Jets on Wednesday.
Washington was a fan favorite in New York, where he played from 2006 to 2009. He was a Pro Bowl selection with Gang Green in 2008, and was again a Pro Bowl selection in 2012. He was also a two-time All-Pro for the Jets, in 2007 and in 2008.
The seven-year veteran was traded from the Jets to the Seahawks for a fifth-round draft pick on the day of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played three full seasons in Seattle before being released on March 12.
Two days later, the veteran signed with the New England Patriots. He didn't make the roster, however, and was cut this past Sunday.
The Jets certainly have a need for Washington. Though it remains to be seen whether he'll be the player he once was, New York is limited with Mike Goodson being suspended for the first four games of the season. And with Joe McKnight having recently been cut, the Jets could use an effective kick returner.
In 16 games for Seattle last season, Washington carried the ball 23 times for 83 yards and a touchdown. He returned 41 punts for 356 yards and 27 kickoffs for 784 yards and a touchdown.
The speedster has returned eight kickoffs for touchdowns in his career.
