Resident, 2 Firefighters Injured In Dix Hills House Fire

DIX HILLS, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Firefighters rescued a man Saturday night from an intense fire in Dix Hills.

Firefighters responded around 11:25 p.m. to reports of a fire with a victim trapped inside at 12 Kenmore St. They quickly located the man, who had gone into cardiac arrest, authorities said.

The Dix Hills Rescue Squad revived him, and he was then transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, according to authorities.

Two firefighters were also injured in the blaze -- one for a hand laceration, the other for smoke inhalation.

A dog and cat died in the fire, authorities said.

Seventy firefighters responded to the blaze, including many from neighboring fire departments. It took them less than 40 minutes to control the fire.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
