Report: Swanky Dinner-And-Movie Theater Coming To South Street Seaport

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A high-end dinner-and-movie theater will be coming to the South Street Seaport about a year and a half from now, according to a published report.

The iPic theater chain signed a deal with the Howard Hughes Corp. for a 505-seat, eight-cinema theater at the seaport, according to a New York Post report.

Seating will cost between $14 and $28 per person depending on service levels and the night of the week, the newspaper reported.

The iPic chain currently operates locations in the Chicago suburbs of Bolingbrook and South Barrington; the Milwaukee suburb of Glendale; Scottsdale, Ariz.; Pasadena, Calif.; Redmond, Wash.; and Austin and Fairview, Texas. Locations are also planned in Bethesda, Md., and Los Angeles.

The theater features personal service call buttons at each seat, and a menu featuring items such as filet mignon sliders, Thai coconut shrimp, and grilled lemon chicken satay, the newspaper reported. Lower-priced tickets will offer food from a counter without waiter service, the paper reported.

A broader new development for the South Street Seaport was unveiled last month.

Designers say they envision the new structure on Pier 17 as mixed-use complexes that will cater to businesses as well as cultural events.

The plan includes visions for a marina and a 50-story tower.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission and the City Council will need to approve the proposal before the project can move forward.
