Report: Rangers, Flyers To Square Off In 2012 NHL Winter Classic
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- The Rangers will be ringing in the new year -- a day late -- when they visit the Flyers at Citizens Bank Park for the NHL's 2012 Winter Classic, according to CSNPhilly.com and the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The league will reportedly hold the game on Monday, January 2, instead of the customary New Year's Day.
"The NHL does not want to go head-to-head with NFL games on Jan. 1, including an Eagles game at Lincoln Financial Field," wrote the Inquirer, citing an anonymous source.
Peter Luukko, president of the Comcast-Spectacor, the Flyers' parent company, told the paper he was waiting for the NHL's stamp of approval.
A Rangers-Flyers "alumni matchup" is also expected to take place.
