Report: Mets Among Teams Interested In Corey Hart
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York Mets are among roughly "a dozen" teams showing interest in free-agent bopper Corey Hart, according to the New York Post.
The Milwaukee Brewers didn't extend a qualifying offer this week to Hart, who missed the entire 2013 season following surgery on both knees. The outfielder-first baseman batted .270 with 30 home runs and 83 RBIs in 2012.
Hart is a lifetime .276 hitter. He hit 31 home runs with 102 RBIs in 2010, his best statistical season.
The Post speculated that the 31-year-old could play first base if mobility is a concern. It's conceivable that both Lucas Duda and Ike Davis would be shipped out of town if that were to be the case, especially with operating officer Jeff Wilpon publicly stating the team has to do something about a "logjam" at the position.
The Mets are also said to be interested in shortstop Rafael Furcal. Team owners have insisted there will be money to spend this offseason.
Meanwhile, the team is "likely" to complete a deal to bring back veteran reliever LaTroy Hawkins, according to the New York Daily News.
