Report: Methane Reaching Dangerous Levels Near Planned Bronx Golf Course

NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- Bronx residents are outraged over the discovery of high levels of methane gas next to Bronx homes near a Ferry Point dump where a golf course is being built for Donald Trump.

The course will cost $97-million dollars and as construction continues methane levels that are considered volatile, by the state, have been discovered, according to a report by the Daily News.

Residents told 1010 WINS reporter Gary Baumgarten that while they had originally looked forward to the construction of the golf course, the recent revelation may cause some of them to leave Ferry Point altogether.

"I don't even want to be in this area anymore now," said Aaron.

Recent measurements have shown levels of methane that greatly exceed the "lower explosive level", according to the report.

Experts explained that if the lower explosive level is exceeded, the simple act of turning on a light can cause an explosion.

Construction is planned to proceed with increased monitoring of methane levels.
