Jets Right Tackle Wayne Hunter On Trade Block?
NEW YORK (WFAN) -- It appears the Jets aren't sold on right tackle Wayne Hunter.
New York recently "explored trading" away the offensive lineman, according to the New York Daily News. The Jets have had fruitless discussions involving Hunter this offseason with "at least one" team from the NFC, the paper reported.
Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum told WFAN's Boomer & Carton last Thursday that the 30-year-old, whose $2.45 million salary is guaranteed for 2012, would likely remain with the team.
"We expect Wayne back, we expect him to be our starter," he said.
Hunter struggled in his new role starting all 16 games last season. He allowed a team-high 11 sacks and 32 quarterback pressures, according to Pro Football Focus.
Embattled quarterback Mark Sanchez absorbed 39 sacks in 2011.
"We need more consistent line play," said Tannenbaum. "There's no question about that. All of our players need to play more consistently up front. We expect him to play better this year."
