Report: Jets Leaning Toward Bringing Rex Ryan Back For 2014
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Many were quick to assume that the Jets would part ways with head coach Rex Ryan after the 2013 season. Not so fast...
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Jets are leaning strongly toward bringing Ryan back for the 2014 season.
The Jets have begun the 2013 season with a surprise 3-2 record. NFL experts expected a rough ride for Gang Green after the franchise dealt star cornerback Darrelle Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Rookie quarterback Geno Smith has handled pressure with aplomb. Smith was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Jets to a 30-28 victory over the Atlanta Falcons at the Georgia Dome. He completed 16 of 20 passes for 199 yards, throwing three touchdowns and did not commit a turnover.
The tide is turning in the right direction for Ryan. He's built up a positive relationship with new general manager John Idzik. It was believed that Idzik would choose Ryan's successor after the 2013 season. Now, both appear to be firmly on the same page.

The outspoken Ryan has gone 37-32 since taking over as Jets head coach in 2009.
