Report: Author Who Collapsed In Prospect Park Has Died
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- The author who collapsed in Prospect Park in New Year's Eve has died, according to a published report.
Rynn Berry, 68, collapsed while running in the iconic Brooklyn Park with no ID on him, and had been unidentified for nearly a week when his photo was circulated with various tubes attached to him.
Police said Berry's came forward to identify him after the photo was circulated.
Berry died around 12:30 a.m. Thursday at New York Methodist Hospital, the publication reported.
Berry was a known expert on vegetarianism and veganism, and served as a historical advisor to the North American Vegetarian Society.
He had published several books, including "the Vegan Guide to New York City," "Fruits of Tantalus," "Food for the Gods: Vegetarianism and the World's Religions," "Famous Vegetarians and Their Favorite Recipes," "The New Vegetarians," and "Hitler: Neither a Vegetarian nor an Animal Lover," according to his website.
He was also often seen selling his books and talking about vegetarianism at the Union Square Greenmarket, the publication reported.
