NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Rapper Meek Mill appears to be in less trouble than previously thought.
The "All Eyes on You" singer, whose real name is Robert Williams, was arrested on reckless endangerment charges Thursday night after investigators said he posted a video on social media showing him illegally riding an ATV and popping wheelies near Harlem River Park. The video has since been removed.
Police said they found the 30-year-old near Dykman Street and 10th Avenue in Inwood.
The rapper's lawyer, Joe Tacopina, said his client had been singled out because of his celebrity.
"That video was sent out to One Police Plaza for analysis, which they really don't do on many cases let alone traffic infractions, and then they came back and arrested Meek Mill, and only Meek Mill, despite the fact that there were eight people doing the same thing. But they only arrested Meek Mill," Tacopina said. "What's very telling about the police department's intent here and how they viewed this is that they had 22 police cars they had to arrest Meek Mill on a traffic violation. I think John Gotti was arrested there were about four police cars. It just goes to tell you what's in their state of mind. It was ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous."
"He's a rapper, he has a bad boy image, maybe his lyrics aren't popular with law enforcement or something. I don't know. But it's clearly a situation where they're targeting a young black entertainer," Tacopina added.
Sources tell 1010 WINS that felony charges against the rapper have been dropped, but he could still face misdemeanor charges.
