Ramapo Police: 5 Teens Accused Of Stealing From Cars

MONSEY, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Five teenagers have been charged in connection with several car break-ins in Monsey, New York.

The Town of Ramapo Police Department said a resident on Shalva Place called to report five males in hooded sweatshirts that were going through parked cars at around 3:55 a.m. Saturday.

While responding, an patrol unit spotted a vehicle on Rt. 59 with its headlights off and pulled the car over, police said. The car contained five young males, police said.

Following an investigation, police discovered credit cards, a New York drivers license, personal checks which did not belong to any of the occupants, as well as, cash and plastic bags containing change, police said.

Several small donation containers containing cash and change were also found, police said.

According to officials, the original caller was able to identify the five as the same she saw going into two unlocked vehicles.

The suspects, ranging in age from 15 to 19, were not identified due to their ages.

All five have been charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of stolen property.

Police urged anyone who believes they may have been a victim of larceny from their vehicles in the area to contact the Ramapo Police Department at 845-357-2400.
