Prosecutor: New Jersey Man Bolts While Jury Deliberates In His Assault Trial

ELIZABETH, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A Bergen County, New Jersey man allegedly bolted this week while jurors were deliberating in his assault trial.

Angel Serpa Rodriguez, 35, was free on $85,000 bond during his five-day trial in Elizabeth, Union County Prosecutor Grace Park said Friday.

A jury convicted Rodriguez on Wednesday, but the Fort Lee resident was not around to hear the verdict.

Park said Rodriguez was seen in Elizabeth Wednesday and is believed to have traveled to West New York before heading south.

Prosecutors say Rodriguez used a jagged piece of glass to slash a man in the face outside a bar in Elizabeth in 2011. He was charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses.

Union County Crimestoppers was offering a reward of $5,000 Friday to anyone who provides information leading to Rodriguez's arrest.
