Police Release Photo, Name Of Man Sought In Attempted Rape At Fort Tryon Park

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police have released the name and photo of a man sought for questioning in connection with an attack on a woman who was pushing her baby in a stroller last week in Fort Tryon Park.

The man police are looking for is Oscar Ruiz, 35. Anyone with information about Ruiz or the incident is asked to contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers hotline at at 800-577-TIPS.

On Friday, a man brandished a broken bottle and attempted to rape Mary Jane Jarman in the Washington Heights park, police said.

"A man climbed over the railing with a broken bottle and said, 'Come here, come here,' and I started yelling, screaming, trying to draw as much attention as I could to myself," Jarman told CBS 2.

The suspect was described then as Hispanic, about 35 years old, around 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He was said to be wearing a blue thermal shirt and blue jeans at the time of the attack.

Jarman fought the alleged assailant off with a tire pump that she carries in her diaper bag.

"He got me in a bear hug at one point, down on the ground and I just kept hitting and hitting him and he took off," Jarman said.

Jarman and her son were not injured in the attack.
