Police On The Lookout For 'Beauty Salon Bandit' In The Bronx

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Police are currently looking for a "Beauty Salon Bandit" who has been holding up Bronx salons at gunpoint. And as police try to track down the armed robber, salons are on high alert.

Authorities say that in the past month the bandit has struck three different locations in the Bronx, and in each instance he pulled out a gun.

Miriam Cisse, who braids hair at a salon on Southern Boulevard, was the first victim back on March 11. She was working with her two sisters late in the day when she says the suspect walked in like a customer.

"When he walked to the door he said, 'Money, money, money,' Cisse told CBS 2's John Schriffen. "And he was like, 'You guys think I'm playing? You gotta bring the money out.'"

Cisse says he got away with about $1000 in cash and four phones.

"It was very, very, very, very scary," Cisse added, "because this has never happened to me. Never. I've been here and this had never happened, so I was very scared."

Two days later he struck again at a salon on Pelham Parkway, where a surveillance video was taken. A 55-year-old female employee was robbed, giving up cash and jewelry.

At the third location on Jerome Avenue, the suspect was caught on a surveillance camera, and his image is pasted to the wall at the top of the salon's stairs. Police describe him as a Hispanic male about 30 years old, standing 5-foot-7 and weighing about 160 pounds. Authorities also say the suspect has tattoos on his forearms, possibly of Asian lettering.

At the third location, yet again, a female was robbed of her cash and cell phone.

No one was injured in any of the cases, but with the suspect still on the loose Cisse says that all salons need to take more precautions.
