Police: NJ Motorcyclist Died While Fleeing From Cops

CLIFTON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Authorities have released the name of the Wallington man who they say crashed his motorcycle and died while fleeing from police in northern New Jersey early Friday.

An officer responding to a report of two motorcycles being driven erratically on Route 46 spotted the bikes and turned on his lights to pull them over.

Sgt. Michael Bienkowski tells The Record newspaper that one bike stopped and the other, a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja, sped away.

Bienkowski says the officer pursued the motorcyclist, finding him after the motorcycle had crashed into a concrete barrier.

25-year-old Emmanuel Devy, a father of five, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police believe Devy couldn't negotiate the turn because he was going too fast.

Police also say there's no evidence Devy had a motorcycle license.

The second motorcyclist was released.
