Police Investigating Shootings, Fiery Crash In Newark
NEWARK, NJ (CBS 2) -- Police in Newark are investigating a series of incidents that left several people dead early Saturday morning.
In Forest Hill around 1 a.m., police say gunmen on the street exchanged fire with a man in a Range Rover, leading it to crash into a parked car.
Officials say 34-year-old Frank Caroselli of Caldwell died from multiple gunshot wounds.
Then on the west side, another victim of violence. Police say a 24-year-old man from Newark was shot as many as 15 times, killing him.
It happened just before 4 a.m. Saturday on South 10th Street near Orange Avenue.
Police say both shootings are unrelated, but say both men were the intended victims.
And less than a mile away from the second shooting on the city's west side, a fiery wreck.
Investigators say state police were pursuing a car for speeding just after 2 a.m. Saturday, but called off the chase when the car drove into a residential neighborhood.
Police say the car then ran a red light, hit another car and smashed into three parked cars before bursting into flames.
The driver, 24-year-old Zafir Abdul Rahman and passenger, 29-year-old Qaadir King, were killed.
Police are still investigating the shootings and the crash.
