Police Investigate Three Diversion Burglaries In Elmwood Park

ELMWOOD PARK, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police said two men have been knocking on doors in Elmwood Park, flashing a PSE&G business card and claiming to be there to check for frozen pipes.

Lt. Bryan DiPasquale said it's a scam.

"These people move very quickly," he said.

DiPasquale said the pair of thieves were seen driving around the area Monday afternoon in a red pick-up truck seeking out seniors who would unwittingly let them in the house.

Police said during the diversion burglaries, one suspect distracts the resident while an accomplice  rummages through the home in search of cash and jewel.

DiPasquale said the homes of three senior citizens were targeted on Monday but the suspects only gained entry into one residence. Nothing was taken in any of the incidents.

Police said if you don't know who is at the door, don't let them in and call 911.
