Police: Intoxicated L.I. Man Plows Car Into Pack Of Dinosaurs

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Tyrannosaurus Wrecked.

A Long Island man has denied a police claim that he was intoxicated when his car smashed into about a dozen roadside dinosaurs.

Only one 30-foot-long, 10-foot-tall T-Rex was still intact after the crash Tuesday in Southampton, Newsday reported.

Larry Schaeffer owns the statue store, Yesterday's Treasures. He said that the driver went "right through the center of the herd.''

Schaeffer said the car finally came to a stop in front of a pink elephant.

Support cables held the dinosaur statues together and kept them intact during Superstorm Sandy.

The damage is estimated at $40,000.

The driver, Christopher Spano of Manorville, said he had a problem with his tires and may have been sleepy. He got a ticket to appear July 17 in Town Court.
