New Jersey State Police said a tractor-trailer struck the back of a disabled cement truck that was on the right shoulder. Police said three men standing outside the cement truck were hit and killed.

According to Mahwah police, those killed were the driver of the disabled cement truck and a repair crew that showed up to fix it.

The repair crew was parked in front of the  cement truck, and while they were pulled over the rig plowed into them, police said.

The tractor-trailer then hit the barrier as well as another vehicle, police said.

There is no word yet on why the tractor-trailer veered off the roadway, police said.

Northbound traffic had been diverted at exit 59. Traffic was stopped from exit 58 and exit 66 with delays of more than an hour, police said.
