N.J. Woman Pepper-Sprayed After Complaining About Bad Hair Coloring

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A New Jersey woman was pepper-sprayed after complaining about a bad hair coloring.

Jessica Mahecha, 25, found the stylist, who police said went by the name of Freddy, on a Craigslist advertisement, CBS2's Christine Sloan reported.

She went to a garden apartment complex in Bloomfield to get her hair styled and her extensions died.

"I didn't want to dye my hair," Mahecha said. "So I had requested that she do an extension so I didn't have to touch any of my personal hair."

When she told Freddy she wasn't happy with the services, police said she was assaulted and pepper-sprayed in the face.

"I had the police on the phone when she attacked me with pepper spray," Mahecha said.

Police are still trying to track down the stylist because she was using a friend's apartment.

Cyber security expert Ian Marlow cautioned people to be careful doing business online and to complete background checks.

"I have them text me their name, their address and a picture before I ever send them any of my information," he said.

But there are still risks if that name or information are fake.

"Never be alone. Always make sure if you can, as much as you can, to be in a public place and have a friend go with you," Marlow suggested.

Mahecha is going to be OK, but said she learned her lesson the hard way.
