Overnight Violence Leaves At Least 4 Dead Citywide
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Violence in the overnight hours left at least four people dead and several others injured throughout the city.
Homicides were reported in every borough except Staten Island.
The first deadly incident happened around 11:20 p.m. at 601 W. 142nd St. in Hamilton Heights. Police found a 49-year-old man with a stab wound to the chest, and he was taken to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police later arrested Michael J. Patalano, 48, in connection with the stabbing. He was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The men had some kind of dispute before the stabbing, according to a New York Daily News report.
The deadly violence continued in Brooklyn about an hour later. Police found a 32-year-old man lying in front of 867 Hancock St. in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section with multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital. There were no arrests reported as of midday Saturday.
Just six minutes later in the Bronx, police found a 19-year-old man lying at 111 E. 184th St. with one gunshot wound each to the head, hand and back. The victim – Kahleed Adams of the Bronx – was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
There were no arrests in that case as of midday Saturday.
And in a fourth incident, police responded at 5:11 a.m. to 89-32 163rd St. in the Jamaica section of Queens, where they found a 33-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest and a 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the ankle.
The younger man was pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital, while the older man was reported in stable condition, police said. As of midday Saturday, there were no arrests and the investigation continued.
Violence in the overnight hours also left a 10-year-old girl wounded as she walked her dog with her mother in Far Rockaway. A gunman on a bicycle fired a shot and grazed the girl in the leg just before 1:30 a.m. outside 22-29 Dix Ave. in Queens, police said.
Three people were also shot around 4 a.m. near Farragut Road and East 96th Street in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn, the newspaper reported.
