NYPD: Suspect Involved In Harlem Shootout With Cops Charged
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police say a 23-year-old man who was involved in a shootout with cops in Harlem over the weekend has been charged.
Officials say Franklyn Nunez was arrested for criminal use of firearm, assault against a police officer, reckless endangerment and other charges.
Police say the shootout happened Sunday night after two officers approached a group of men in front of the Hamilton Houses on Frederick Douglass Boulevard.
They say Nunez crossed the street and when officers followed him, police say Nunez pulled a handgun and fired twice.
"I heard four shots, one then pow, pow, pow," said witness Greg Cleghorne.
"He got up and tried to jump over those two cars the truck and the van and that's when the cop shot him," another witness said.
Nunez was struck once in the chest and once in the leg and was taken to Harlem Hospital. The officers were not hurt.
Police say the handgun used by Nunez was found at the scene.
