Coronavirus Update: NYC's Department Of Education Wants Schools To Stop Using Zoom Video Conferencing Service Over Security Concerns
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - New York City's Department of Education wants schools to stop using Zoom because of security concerns.
Zoom began offering its premium video conferencing service to schools for free during the coronavirus pandemic, but hackers have been disrupting meetings.
The DOE wants schools to start using Microsoft Teams, which it says has the same capabilities as Zoom, but more security measures.

"Does anybody really think we want student's personal information out there for anybody to see, for anybody to access? That's absolutely unacceptable," Schools Chancellor Richard Carranza said Sunday. "So we put out guidance, and it doesn't go into that it doesn't go into effect tomorrow. We want people to gradually transition to another format. Zoom, and we've been working with Zoom, is unwilling and unable to meet the security needs of our students. We will not put our students information out in cyberspace for anybody to access. That is unacceptable. So the notion that we would let that happen, it's just not, it's not reality."
Zoom's CEO says his company will use the next 90 days to upgrade privacy and security.
