NJ TRANSIT, PATH Train Riders Deal With Delays, Suspensions
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Commuters who take NJ TRANSIT and PATH were met with major delays during the Monday morning rush hour.
A broken rail outside the Grove Street station in Jersey City caused problems for PATH train riders who ride the Journal Square and Hoboken lines into 33rd Street and the World Trade Center.
It forced hundreds of people off trains and into long lines outside nearby ferry stations ill-equipped for the onslaught. A quarter-mile-long line of people along the Hudson River barely moved in below-freezing temperatures.
Nearby, over 100 people lined up at another ferry station to buy tickets at two machines.
The broken rail was repaired around 10 a.m. and service was restored with delays.
NJ TRANSIT is cross-honoring at Newark, Hoboken, and Penn Station. Hudson Bergen Light Rail is cross-honoring at Hoboken, Exchange Place, and Newport.
Meanwhile, a disabled Amtrak train in one of the Hudson River tunnels was delaying NJ TRANSIT trains into Penn Station. In some cases, riders faced a delay of an hour or more.
"Really frustrating cause it's money, lost times lost," said commuter Sarah Tabio.
It is unknown if this is related to track work at Penn Station that got underway Monday morning.
PATH was but is no longer accepting NJ TRANSIT rail tickets and passes at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken and 33rd Street.
