Next Phase Of Lincoln Tunnel Helix Work To Begin Tuesday

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Be prepared for delays as work continues on the Helix leading to the Lincoln Tunnel.

The next phase of the roadway improvement project is set to begin Tuesday when westbound lanes will be closed.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says commuters will still be able to travel westbound through the tunnel and onto Route 495 by detouring onto eastbound lanes. Eastbound Helix traffic will exit at the Pleasant Avenue off ramp and use local street access to the tunnel by JFK Boulevard East.

Planned closures will take place between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday through Thursday. Closures will take place overnight on weekends.

The $88 million project will repair the concrete deck and fix the steel underneath the 74-year-old Helix approach.
