New York City's Best Upcoming Outdoor Concerts

As the streets of the Big Apple heat up, New Yorkers look to spend more time outside. This summer there are several fantastic concerts that allow music fans to hear some wonderful tunes while taking in the sun and warm weather. Here are some of the best outdoor concert events available this summer in New York City.

The SummerStage series is a Central Park mainstay. It occurs in the park starting in May and lasts all the way until September. Just about every musical preference is covered during SummerStage, including opera and salsa! Specifically, an outdoor stage performance from the Broadway musical "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" is well worth a trip to Rumsey Playfied. Carole King is a Grammy Award-winning song writer and singer who has penned hits such as "Will You Love Me Tomorrow." The event is free from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. and several songs from this Tony Award-winning musical will be performed.

The Celebrate Brooklyn! concert series has been delighting audiences for 37 years. More than 2,000 musicians have played on this well-known stage. The event is free, but there is a $3 suggested donation. The times and dates are varied, so visit the calendar of events to see who is performing on any given day (concerts run through Nov. 2, 2015). Some artists to look forward to are Rhiannon Giddens and Willie Nelson.

Lincoln Center gets in the summer concert series game starting July 22. The musical selections are diverse, and feature everything from international selections to pop hits. Some acts that are not to be missed include Randy Newman and Afropunk. The best part of Lincoln Center Out of Doors is that it's free! The series ends Aug. 9.

Tony Award-winning actress, dancer and singer Sutton Foster comes to Forest Hills for a summer night musical engagement with the New York Pops. She has won two Tonys for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and "Anything Goes." She's also known for her two television shows, "Bunheads" and "Yonger." The New Pops is a world famous professional orchestra that specializes in popular music. Ticket prices range from $5 to $129.

Tracy lives in the downstate area of New York. Some might call her an avid graduation affectionate (MA, Fordham University & MLS, SUNY Buffalo). She'd say she's just waiting for the right degree to come along with a promise and a ring someday. Her work can be found on Examiner.com.
