New Tappan Zee Bridge To Have Suicide Prevention Measures In Place
NYACK, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) - The new Tappan Zee Bridge will include some safety features to dissuade people from jumping.
As WCBS 880's Sean Adams reported from Nyack, the current span, which rises as much as 138 feet above the Hudson River, has long attracted people determined to end their lives.
The design of the new bridge will take that into account.

At a meeting Thursday night, designs were unveiled for six scenic viewing locations along the shared use path that will be protected by stainless steel netting below to deter jumpers.
According to the Journal News, the rest of the three mile twin spans with be lined with anti-climbing fencing.
Safety measures and emergency call boxes have been installed along the current span to prevent suicides.
Residents also voiced concern again Thursday night about parking for the pedestrian path.
One idea previously floated was to knock down South Nyack Village Hall to put in a parking lot. But the state determined the building has historic value. It might be repurposed for restrooms instead.
The $3.9 billion span is expected to open for traffic in 2018.
