New Rochelle Reschedules Ray Rice Victory Rally Due To Winter Storm

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Ray Rice's hometown victory lap will have to wait a few weeks.

New Rochelle has postponed its rally for the Super Bowl-champion running back as the Tri-State area braces for a major winter storm Friday into Saturday.

The festivities, originally slated for Saturday, have been rescheduled for March 2. The rally will take place at 10:30 a.m. on the front steps of New Rochelle City Hall.

"Further details will be forthcoming as the date approaches," the city said on its website.

The Baltimore Ravens star talked up his home town on WFAN radio earlier this week.

"My high school team won the state championship and I won the Super Bowl. What a great year for New Rochelle," Rice said on the "Boomer and Carton" show. "It just shows that there are some great talents that come out of New Rochelle."

In addition to his Westchester ties, the Ravens star also played college football at Rutgers.

Fans are encouraged to wear purple for the rally as Rice is welcomed back home.

"So many residents of New Rochelle are eager to demonstrate their admiration for Ray's accomplishments. This community rally will be an opportunity for all of us to offer our congratulations to our hometown hero," Mayor Noam Bramson said in a statement earlier this week.

March 2 -- put it on your calendar! You may not be able to congratulate Rice in person Saturday, so leave a message right here in the comments...
