NCAA Investigation Needs To Get The Facts Right
WASHINGTON (AP) — NCAA President Mark Emmert says he wants investigations such as that of Auburn quarterback Cam Newton to be "as efficient and expedited" as possible, but "you've got to get the facts right."
Emmert spoke Friday during taping of a TV show to air Monday on the Big Ten Network, saying the NCAA's "burden of proof is higher" than for someone writing a blog.
He did not specifically address the case of Newton, a leading Heisman Trophy contender for No. 2-ranked Auburn. Newton's father, Cecil, reportedly sought money when his son was being recruited.
Emmert also said student-athletes "will never be paid as long as I'm president of the NCAA." He was appearing on "Expert Opinion with Graham Spanier," hosted by Penn State's president.
