More Than A Dozen Dogs Killed In White Plains Kennel Fire
WHITE PLAINS, NY (CBSNewYork) - A backyard kennel went up in flames, killing 16 dogs.
The dogs died in their cages, officials said.
It is believed the dogs died of smoke inhalation as opposed to being burned alive.
The dogs were housed in a small shed behind the home of a dog breeder. A space heater may have caused the fire.
The homeowner has not been charged.
The dogs were apparently all the same breed.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was examining the scene.
