Mets' Niese OK After Heart 'Started Racing,' May Have Procedure Over All-Star Break

NEW YORK (WFAN/AP) -- Mets starter Jonathon Niese says he's OK after his heart "started racing" during a game over the weekend.

Niese said Monday that he's expecting to have a procedure called an ablation next month at the All-Star break to help the condition. He said he shouldn't have to miss a start.

"It's like an outpatient thing that you do," said Niese, who is 4-2 with a 4.11 ERA. "It only takes like three days to recover from it."

Niese felt the irregular heartbeat on Sunday night when he singled and scored on a home run. He struck out a career-high 10 in six scoreless innings, leading New York over St. Louis 6-1.

The 25-year-old was checked by doctors Monday. He said everything was normal and that "it's nothing serious."

He felt the same thing with his heart during a game last year. The left-hander later wore a heart monitor on the bench.

Mets fans, do you think Niese should wait until the All-Star break? Sound off in the comments below...
