Authorities Seize Cocaine, Heroin Valued At More Than $5 Million In Paterson Bust

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Four people have been arrested in a major drug bust in Paterson, New Jersey.

As WCBS 880's Kelly Waldron reported, it's being called the largest heroin seizure in the history of Paterson.

"There were 20 kilos of cocaine and 19 kilos of pure heroin," said Police Director Jerry Speziale.

Speziale estimates the drugs have a street value of more than $5 million combined.

"It certainly doesn't solve the drug problem, but it certainly does put a serious dent in the supply," he said.

Police said they found the drugs stored in a tractor-trailer and two other cars in an industrial area on Second Avenue.

Speziale said the drugs were confiscated before they were sent to processing mills to be packaged for street sales.

Authorities have not yet released the charges against those who were arrested in the bust.

The bust was conducted by Drug Enforcement Administration agents, Paterson and Yonkers, New York, police departments and Passaic County Sheriffs.
