Numerous guns, drugs and thousands in cash found at Long Beach home, police say

Illegal guns, ammo and a dangerous amount of narcotics were found as part of a suspected drug trafficking operation at a Long Island home. 

"The joint investigation focused on individuals believed to be transporting cocaine, fentanyl and other controlled substances from Queens to Long Beach," said Michael Ratta of the FBI. 

On Friday, police arrested Charles Burns, 34. The search warrant at his home on J.J. Evans Boulevard allegedly turned up 23 illegal guns, several of which were untraceable, with high-capacity magazines and 1,000 rounds of ammunition. Authorities also say they recovered dangerous amounts of deadly narcotics, including hundreds of grams of cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, fentanyl and illegal pills, and $100,000 in cash. 

Four children lived in the house, which is just steps from a church and a preschool.   

"It's a lot of firearms for one person. This investigation is ongoing," said Long Beach Police Commissioner Richard DePalma. 

"Nobody has this amount of guns in their homes if they're not selling them or lending them to other people who are committing illegal acts," Nassau County DA Anne Donnelly said. 

Prosecutors said Burns has a criminal record and is now facing 59 counts of criminal possession of weapons and drugs. He pleaded not guilty. 

Donnelly said that law enforcement took down an illegal gun dealer on the same block nearly two years ago to the day. 

"It is my intent to make sure that Charles Burns and that defendant become neighbors again in prison," Donnelly said. 

Police will investigate whether the guns were used in any previous crimes.
