Madison Square Garden Celebrates Its 133-Year History With 2 Exhibits

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Madison Square Garden will be celebrating some of its greatest moments in its 133 year history with two special exhibits.

"Garden 366" and "Defining Moments" will be unveiled in November as part of the second phase of the World's Most Famous Arena's three-year transformation.

The exhibits will highlight some of the Garden's greatest moments in sports, music, entertainment and politics.

"Garden 366" will wrap around the Madison Concourse and feature a visual calendar marking one moment in the arena's history for every day of the year.

The first 10 of 20 "Defining Moments" will also be highlighted through photos, memorabilia and artifacts. The remaining 10 moments will be unveiled in fall 2013 at the Garden Concourse.

Some of the moments that will be featured in the exhibit include Marilyn Monroe singing "Happy Birthday" to President John F. Kennedy, the Knicks winning their first championship in 1970, and the "Fight of the Century" between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.

During Game 2 of the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals, former Knicks guard John Starks pulled off what is considered to be one of the most famous plays in the team's history.

"The energy that went through me every time I took that court I knew I had to go in strong and I just took off," former Knicks player John Starks said, recalling "The Dunk" of May 1993 -- which is featured in "Defining Moments."

The three-phase renovation of the Garden will wind up costing $1 billion. The final stage of the renovation is expected to be complete in time for the start of the 2013-2014 seasons.
