Police: Man Slashed Woman Who Laughed At Him In Lower Manhattan Subway Station

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police were searching Tuesday evening for a man who allegedly slashed a woman in the arm, after she laughed at him for spitting at her in a Lower Manhattan subway station.

The suspect tried to chat up the 34-year-old woman around 5:40 p.m. this past Saturday inside the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall subway station, which is located in the Civic Center area and serves the No. 4, 5, 6, J and Z lines.

The woman ignored the man, so he spat at her, police said. The woman began laughing at the suspect, police said.

At that point, the suspect took out a sharp object, slashed the woman in the arm, and ran off, police said.

The woman was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital, where she was treated and released, police said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male about 35 years old, standing 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 165 pounds.

Police have released surveillance photos and video.
