Lower Level Of GWB Closed Overnight For Emergency Response Drill
NEW YORK(CBSNewYork) -- The lower level of the George Washington Bridge will be closed from Saturday night until Sunday morning.
Earlier this week the Port Authority announced that the lower level of the bridge would be closed from 9 p.m. on Saturday October 5, until 7 a.m. on Sunday October 6, for an emergency response drill.
The NYPD, FDNY, Fort Lee, Englewood Cliffs, and Bergen County police departments along with the New Jersey State Police, FBI, and Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department were slated to participate in the drill, the Port Authority announced in a press release on its website.
The exercise is part of an ongoing series of drills designed to test and enhance response procedures. Members of the public might notice "smoke conditions" and emergency vehicles as part of the drill, the Port Authority said.
