Long Line Of Dorothy Hopefuls Try Out For 'The Wiz Live!'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- If you're dreaming of being a musical theater star, you'll want to head on down to Saturday's open casting call for Dorothy in "The Wiz Live!" but be ready to wait on a long line.

As 1010 WINS' Roger Stern reported, 19-year-old Milan Anderson boarded a Greyhound bus in Boston at 1:30 a.m. to get to New York City by 5 a.m. for the 10 a.m. casting call.

"Do you see that line?! I'm pretty sure it's actually going to go around the corner. Is it going around the corner? I don't know," she said.

NBC said it's looking for a young African-American woman with an extraordinary voice to star in its live broadcast of "The Wiz" in December.

"I love the role of Dorothy. I've always loved 'The Wiz' since I was little," said one hopeful.

"I just feel 'The Wiz' relates to me going to a new world, understanding different people," said another.

And so they lined up in the rain, hoping for the chance to put on those ruby slippers and ease on down the road.
