LIRR Fixes Cash-Only Ticket Machine Problem
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Long Island Rail Road says ticket machines at its stations have been fixed following an earlier issue in which they were unable to accept credit or debit cards.
The transit agency said the issue had been due to a communication problem with its provider, Sprint, that rendered it unable to communicate with banks and process electronic payments.
According to Newsday, the issue was resolved around 2:30 p.m. Sunday after the agency was able to use a Verizon backup connection.
On Friday, ticket machines at Metro-North stations stopped taking card payments because of a glitch. Metro-North along with the LIRR are both run by the MTA.
The Metro-North problem was resolved Saturday afternoon.
