Kobayashi Fails To Capture Pizza-Eating Record In Brooklyn

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) --  Competitive eater Takeru Kobayashi failed in his attempt to break the Guinness World Record for eating a 12'' pizza Saturday night in Brooklyn.

Kobayashi -- best known for his exploits at the annual Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest on Coney Island -- was trying to eat away at a record currently held by Josh Anderson of New Zealand.

Kobayashi was able to eat the pizza in a remarkable 2 minutes, 3 seconds - but it wasn't enough to best Anderson, who finished with a time of 1 minute, 45.37 seconds.

1010 WINS' Terry Sheridan reports

In order to break the record, Kobayashi had to eat the pizza with a fork and knife, according to Guinness rules.

The event took place at Java Street Hall in Greenpoint at 8 p.m.

Kobayashi is a six-time champion of the Nathan's contest. Kobayashi had held the title from 2001-2006 before being defeated by Joey Chestnut in 2007.
